Established in 2024, MSU Women in Finance was born from a need to address the persistent underrepresentation of women in the finance major at MSU and in the financial industry in general.
Our organization is dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community and belonging, ensuring that every student has the resources and support system necessary to thrive in high-stakes finance environments.

Bridging the Gender Gap in Finance
"Women hold 52% of finance industry jobs but are underrepresented in senior positions"
Despite progress in higher education, women remain underrepresented in finance majors and subsequent professional careers. This initial barrier and lack of a sense of belonging often influence career trajectories long before a student enters the workforce.
According to Professor Kymm Hadlock, “Finance is one of the largest majors at MSU and continues to grow. However, women make up just over 20% of finance majors, and that number has been declining. Many women in my class reported feeling uncomfortable attending student organization meetings, as they were predominantly male. That’s when I started discussing the need to cultivate a sense of belonging” (Griffin, 2025)

Inaugural Conference
We celebrated a significant landmark with our first Women in Finance Conference, bringing together over 100 students and professionals to discuss the future of the industry.
